This beach offers homage to the southern US with its moss-covered trees, yet still creates the stunning vistas that attract so many to enjoy Mobile Bay. There are wonderful little art galleries to explore and plenty of seafood dining options that offer a fresh catch straight from the gulf. The French Quarter is fun for a romantic stroll, as is the municipal pier that’s a full quarter-mile long. Take a walk, settle in with a book, or go fishing – the choice is up to you.

Make sure to visit the local golfing center and zoological park when you want to get off the beach for a while and bring your water sports and other beach things along for the perfect afternoon with family and friends.

Bird watching is the #1 activity that you’ll find going on here on this barrier island. Access it from the 3 mile bridge and explore the fort on this family friendly adventure. Many visitors to this beach area wind up purchasing real estate so they can make it their permanent home. Don’t forget to explore Shell Mound Park during your stay.

This national wildlife refuge offers a large migratory bird stopover that birdwatchers are going to love. There are ample hiking trails to enjoy as well, plus the waves are just perfect for surfing, skimboarding, and other water sports. If you want to go fishing, that’s allowed within the refuge as well. There is 5 miles of beachfront in total that is accessible, but the top birding times of April, May, September, and October may bring some extra crowds along with it.

If you want to go camping while enjoying the beach, then this is the place for you. It has all of the facilities that you’re going to need during your stay, including 11 bathhouses. Just cross Highway 182 when you’re ready to enjoy the shore or spend some time at the inland lakes if you prefer. There’s even a swimming pool if you want to enjoy waters that are climate controlled. Biking and hiking trails are right there as well and don’t worry about getting dirty – there are also laundry facilities available.

This is the place to be if you want the full resort experience while enjoying one of the best Alabama beaches at the same time. Offering services since 1983, you have access to private beaches, championship golf, and fresh-caught seafood from the daily deep-sea fishing adventures that are available. Take a hike along the miles of trails that are available, go shopping if you prefer, or you can choose to stream a movie and chill with a loved one. This fort has stood as the guardian of Mobile Bay since 1834. It’s one of the few forts that have seen active duty in four separate wars. Most famous for the Battle of Mobile Bay during the Civil War, the active living history tours is one of those things you just need to do. Afterward you can enjoy some time on the small stretches of beach that are offered as well. There are entry fees to the area, however, so you’ll want to plan ahead. Children under the age of 6 were free at the time of this writing.

If you love getting out into the water, then this is one of the beaches that you’re going to love. Stop here and you’ll be able to relax in whatever way best suits you. The beach itself is golden and warm, with stairs that lead you into the water and marked swimming zones. There are plenty of grassy areas for a picnic as well and plenty of room to setup a beach canopy.

Although it’s not along the coast, this manmade reservoir still offers a great chance to have some fun. Located between Logan Martin Dam and Neely Henry Dam, you’ll have boating, skiing, and swimming opportunities. Take advantage of the picnic areas to grill up something tasty, especially if you take advantage of the fishing opportunities. The fishing is so good, in fact, that FLW Outdoor Tours has held championship events here multiple times in the last 20 years.

Located just south of Fairhope, the marinas are almost full all of the time at this beautiful beach. Take a stroll along one of the piers or just sit back and watch the pelicans do their thing. Have a seat along the developed boardwalk to enjoy a great view or pack a blanket to enjoy one of the limited sandy areas. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, there are numerous shopping options available too.
