It’s not often that a beach is overshadowed by a sporting event, but the annual Daytona 500 is one of racing’s biggest events in the US each year. Races have been held in this beach community for more than 100 years and nothing seems to be slowing down that tradition. The beaches are white and wide, giving you plenty of room even when the weather is hot and there are people everywhere. Stroll through the oceanside shops, grab your favorite beverage, and plan to spend a perfect day with the ones you love.

The beaches in Florida tend to offer unique experiences based on their location. The beaches in Brevard County, also known as the “Space Coast Beaches,” are an outer-barrier beach that can let you see the tides come in and the rockets fly out. They’re close to Disney World and Orlando’s many other attractions. Playgrounds, volleyball courts, and picnic areas are available in abundance, as is the wonderfully warm Florida sunshine.

  1. Hollywood Beach

This isn’t Hollywood, CA we’re talking about here. One of the best boardwalks in the United States is the main feature of this beautiful area, but so is the clean sand. Pets are not allowed on the beach, but the water is perfect and the amenities are being upgraded to provide world class dining and nightlife. Head over to Connecticut Street for easy parking, but watch out for Memorial Day and Labor Day – the beach is packed on those holiday weekends.

  1. Miami Beach

The place to see and be seen when visiting Florida is Miami Beach. Lay out a towel or put up your umbrella to have a relaxing good time because there is sun, sand, and plenty more to enjoy. There is golf nearby if you want, enjoy fresh seafood at a local restaurant, or enjoy the thriving arts scene after you finish your book by the sea. The waters are blue, the palms seem like skyscrapers, and it will be a trip that you won’t soon forget.

  1. Waikiki Beach

Located on the southern shores of O’ahu, there are 5 beautiful beaches that are located in the entire Waikiki district. Waikiki Beach just happens to be the most famous of them all and for good reason. The beach has been restored in recent years because of the tidal flows, restoring a tradition that had been in place for nearly 50 years when sand was transported from Manhattan Beach, CA. Today you can lay back, relax, and enjoy the gentle waters all year long thanks to the beautiful weather in this island state.

If you want to see a spectacular sunset, then this is the California beach for you. Named after a businessman, you’ll find a lot of profit in spending an evening here to enjoy a twilight filled with orange and strawberry skies. The long pier makes for a perfect stroll, but the 9.5 miles of beach aren’t bad for a walk either. There’s plenty of surfing and lots of water sports – not bad for a beach that in the 1920’s was completely filled up with oil wells.

  1. Venice Beach

At Venice Beach, the boardwalk might be more important than the seaside view. Entertainers galore are up and down the boardwalk. Rent some skates, bring a skateboard, or just grab a bite to eat and shop to your heart’s content. The entire experience is free to the public. Don’t forget to stop by Muscle Beach, maybe play some basketball, and then take a break on the 1.5 mile beach to enjoy a view. It’s easy to see why this is the #1 tourist attraction for all of Southern California.

  1. Jones Beach

Here’s a wrinkle for you – most people look at Jones Beach, NY as a top beach. Jones Beach, OR should not be ignored either. The winds are perfect for kiteboarding here and the width of the beach is beyond belief. It’s located right along the stunning Columbia River gorge, just northwest of Portland, right on the trail that Lewis and Clark once followed. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Mount St. Helen’s. It’s a beach that is only about a decade old, but it deserves to be discovered today.

  1. Coney Island

A trip to Brooklyn isn’t complete without a trip out to Coney Island. Not only is the boardwalk a great amusement park that has been restored, but the views aren’t so bad either. One of the oldest wooden roller coasters in the United States can be found here and you can’t miss stopping at Nathan’s Famous. There is plenty of room on the beach for sports activities and games, while different live events can be seen throughout the year as well. Don’t forget to take a ride on the recently built Thunderbolt to have your heart fit into your throat.

  1. Myrtle Beach

A similar amusement park and beach combination can be found in South Carolina as well. What stands out about the beach is the massive pier, which lets you access one of the best sunrises you’ll ever see. Take a ride on the Skywheel or just enjoy sunbathing on the Grand Strand. If you like to explore, the numerous sand dunes in the area make for a great hike. Bring your own gear, but plan to arrive early if you want to make use of what is available on this clean beach. And remember: there is a thong ban on Myrtle Beach.

The 10 most popular beaches in the USA offer you a little bit of everything. There is good eats, great surf, and plenty of warm sunshine all year long. Visit one of them or visit them all and you won’t be disappointed by the experience.
